Tuesday :)

Good morning all!
This is a short entry as I need to be at school early today - we're meeting with the superintendent of the district - big stuff :)

I'm sure there are times when this baby thinks, what is going on out there? And I"m positive this baby will count be able to count to five at a super early-genius like age :) Baby hears me count to five probably 30 times a day! (It's the school wide 'time to be quiet' trick)

Other than that, being born into this family will certainly be an adventure! This baby has no idea what he or she is in for, and neither do we!!

Have a great day everyone :)

Last Week Before Spring Break :)

Good morning, all!
I actually slept like a 'normal' person last night! It was great!! :) So let's hope that continues at least for a little while :)

Yesterday while I was enjoying a nice little Sunday afternoon nap, I woke up to the baby kicking a little bit - Well, I thought Baby was kicking rather hard, and then out of the corner of my eye, I also thought that I saw my sweater move! Sure enough, the baby was kicking so hard that I saw about three little pulses come come from my belly, through the sweater! Crazy stuff, I tell ya :) And yet... we are STILL have trouble when it comes to letting Ian feel the kicks - It's like this baby knows when we are trying to play with it! :) oh well....

This Thursday will be 6 months already - which is awesome and exciting and scary all at once! We're picking up the crib and changing table from my mom this weekend (Thanks, Mom!) and we have a bassinet, so we are getting ready for this baby!!! :)

One more week of school - and a principal observation on Wednesday. And... Friday the superintendent of our district let the principal know he is going to recommend to keep our school open next year - so that is GREAT news! Means Laura will probably have a job :) Now... the board just needs to vote the same way....

Have a great week, everyone!

Happy Friday :)

Thanks for the comments, everyone :) I love hearing from you! As Aunt Barb mentioned in her last comment - I'm nearing the home stretch - so that was fun to read!!

Today we have PT conferences in the morning, and then we teachers are dismissed at noon - so that's nice!

Sleeping is about the same - we have one of those Sleep Number beds, so this morning when Ian and I were both awake (Around 5) I deflated my side so that the sleep number is probably about 20 - very cushiony! I'm hoping that if my body just sinks into something it will be more comfortable - we'll see - the side sleeping thing is just getting really tough!!!

I'm headed to Dunkin' Donuts this morning for a decaf coffee with cream and sugar - yum! It will do nothing except fill me up with empty calories but i SO miss dunkin' donuts coffee! So it's a little Friday treat for me :)

One week until we go to Galveston with Mom and Mary - so I am really looking forward to that!! I wonder how the baby will react in the plane? I suppose I need to enjoy flying with the baby with no chance of him or her crying :) :)

Have a great day everyone!! I'm heading to the library this weekend for some grown up (i.e. non-baby or parenting) books - if you have any suggestions on good things you've read recently, send them my way!

Love you! Have a great weekend!!!

Ode to Sleep....

First off, Happy 26 weeks to Baby Bally!! I can hardly believe how fast these weeks go by - 28 weeks is the start of the 3rd trimester, so we are definitely getting there :)

This isn't really going to be an 'ode' to sleep - more of just sharing with you that I think pregnancy might just try and prepare us for motherhood a little bit... specifically in the category of sleep. It is now officially getting very difficult to find a sleeping position that's comfortable, so this momma-to-be wakes up with a sore back every night! Not to mention, my dreams are out of control, and this morning I woke up at 3:15am and couldn't really get back to sleep until about 5ish - yuck!!! I know it will become much more difficult when the baby comes, but I thought I would maybe get a few good last months of sleep :( Oh well... small price to pay, I suppose!

P/T conferences tonight and then tomorrow am - then we have the afternoon off - so that's nice! Also, P/T conferences for the art teacher usually involve cleaning the room - so it's not so bad!

Have a great day everyone - hope you're getting better sleep than I am!

The Strawberry Caper

Good morning :)
Last night the baby got to enjoy two pints of strawberries with me! The first box were fresh from the store, yum!! And then I figured - I still had one in the fridge so I might as well have those with the sugar on them - double yum! I actually didn't intend on eating two boxes of strawberries - but... I suppose it's better than two pints of ice cream :) Plus, it was spread out over a few hours.. so that makes it a little better, I suppose!

Ian said the baby will come out either really liking fruit - or really tired of it since Mom ate so much! :)

I've just been marveling lately at this whole process - I mean, I've been pregnant since October! We made it through fall, an entire winter, now we have more entire season-Spring! And then early in summer we'll meet little guy or girl :) Just amazing that this baby now is pretty much developed inside me and just putting on that wonderful baby fat now!

Two more days of school this week (today and Thursday) and then P/T conferences Friday - so two more high energy days to go! I was SO tired yesterday - I came home, did some homework for grad school, slept on the couch from 7-9pm and then went to bed at 10:30!!

Anyhow, have a great day everyone :)

100 days to go!

Wow, it seems like as I've been watching this blog, numbers have been so high! First in the 200's, then alllll the way down to the 100 mark - now we're finally in the 2-digit numbers :) Not that I'm completely ready to be a mom, I still have no idea what to do! But I am excited and looking forward to it :)

It's so refreshing to look out the window as I type this and see shrubs about 50 feet away with little buds on them! The past couple of days I've have to get close-up to plants to notice the green, but it's SO nice that I"m able to notice it now from the house!

Our friend Nate came to Irving yesterday to observe/shadow my principal, and so Ian and I got a chance to visit with him after school at our house (and he brought us a bassinet for the baby - thanks Nate and Alli!) - He has a 5 month old boy, and it was just so nice to get his perspective on things! And like I said to Nate, it was nice to see that he was still a functioning person, same personality and all :) Just a little more tired, I suppose... There's hope for me and Ian yet!

Today it's rainy and windy here - but I think it's safe to say that winter if officially over :) And I could not be happier about that!
Have a great day, everyone!

Start of a new week :)

Well, it seems like Spring is officially here! And that makes me very happy! We have plants coming up in the yard - and the 10 day forecast has temps in the 50s and above - which is way nice compared to those winter temps!

In the baby arena :) I traveled to Springfield to watch the Tri-Valley 8th grade girls play in their State tournament (Students from last year) and the baby kicked nearly the whole drive there and back! Baby either really likes driving, or wanted me to not be sitting anymore! Actually... speaking of kicking, I think the baby really only kicks in large amounts when I'm sitting down - I wonder if I'm squishing the little guy? It's frustrating though, because baby will be kicking, then I'll stand up real quick and say "Ian!! Feel this!".... and the baby stops kicking... sigh! It's happened to us about 10 times now!

Anyhow, other than that, things are still going really well!
Have a great Monday everyone!

Happy 1st Day of Spring!!!!!

Today I'm up an hour earlier, which is a little strange in itself! I'm used to it being light outside and it was DARK! I have no idea how Ian does it everyday... (he wakes up at 5:15!) Anyhow, I'm going to a conference at the Peoria Civic Center for all the teachers in Peoria County - that is going to be a lot of teachers!! It's from 8-1pm - and I just hope it's interesting! I'll bring my sketchbook, just in case :)

The doctor's appt yesterday went great - the heartbeat sounds good, and I'm measuring on target (26 inches - whatever that means! definitely not around the waist... hehe) The next time i go in is for the ultrasound in 3 weeks, and also a gestational diabetes test - where I have to drink very syrupy sugary drinks and they see how I respond - I'm afraid of that one! (I can't have too many sweets or I don't feel good) :/

The main conversation I had with the doctor is whether or not he'll be in town when I have my baby! He said there is always the possibility that we could induce if he was leaving right around my delivery date (say for the 4th of July) and I hadn't delivered yet... But he didn't know what his schedule was, so it was all speculation :)

Anyhow, have a great day, everyone! And thanks, Mary, Dad, and Jill for leaving comments once in a while - I LOVE the comments! And... I did set it up so everyone can make them... hint hint! hehe

Yay for Thursdays :)

Happy 25 weeks Baby Bally! :) I love that ticker at the top - almost 2 pounds and can hear respond to noises from the outside - so cool!

I can definitely tell that baby is getting bigger - I was trying on clothes yesterday and looked in those wonderful shopping mall mirrors and thought, 'Oh my, my stomach is huge!' Which is a thought I have about every 2 or 3 weeks, and I just know I have 3 more months of that thought as well! But, bigger stomach = growing baby, so I'm okay with it :)

I think the baby might be on a 'normal' schedule as of now - at around 10, I can't feel the baby move anymore, then a little bit after I wake up, I feel some pulses again - so that would be good! I've read that sometimes the babies are reversed (Active at night) and then that is a predictor for how they will be once they are born!

25 weeks... 15 to go - wow!!!

The plumbers said that to fix the house would cost about $1500-$3000 - so more than I thought, but at least it's not that $20,000 high end that they had originally predicted! We can handle this one....

Doctor's appointment today! No ultrasound, but at least I'll get to hear the heartbeat :)
Then having pizza with Ben and the Bally family :) I haven't seen them in a while! So that will be fun :)

Have a great Thursday!

Plumbing Day!

Today is the day that the plumbers go into the rent house and fix everything - so let's hope that the number is at least below $1000!!! Needless to say, Ian and I are very anxious about it....

Baby has been moving a bunch, but not a lot in a row - so it's hard to catch him/her so that Ian can feel too! I might be to the point where if I poke on my stomach the baby moves, but I don't want to push too hard!

The tummy keeps getting bigger and bigger! I suppose that's what's going to happen - but even I can notice it every three days or so!! :) I am so excited that Spring is here - that means only a little bit more time until the baby gets here! But I know to enjoy this time with Ian and I as well :)

Have a great day everyone :)

New Appts...

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone! :)

What a beautiful day too! 72 and sunny - I love it :) Plus, today is the day that I have morning duty and my little 'gym' class - where I take 6 students outside to play in the afternoon - so it's a perfect day for it, really!

I called my doctor yesterday and scheduling the appointments proved to be a bit tricky! They REALLY wanted to see me this week, but I wanted Ian to be there for the sonogram, so we comprimised and I'm going in for a regular checkup on Thursday. Then, April 14th, Ian and I are going in for a sonogram. What put a minor kink in things was that the doctors are going on vacation next week - but everyone deserves to get away! I'm just hoping they don't go on vacation the week of July 2nd!! :)

Have a great day everyone - love!

A New Week :)

Good morning everyone,

After a nice, relaxing weekend with some long walks on our road, I'm feeling better! It was nice to talk through every thing with family and friends - so thank you! And I have a feeling that things will work out - because they just seem to most of the time!

The OBGYN wants to reschedule the ultrasound for this week - but Ian is super busy with the ice cream building/taxes/rent house/and his real job so I think I'll try and have it next week - so we'll just have to wait a little longer, I guess! It would really be no fun without him there...

A fun little baby story is that I was trying to listen to baby's heartbeat over the weekend and was pushing the stethoscope into my belly (But not too hard) then the baby kicked or elbowed back right where I was pushing in!! Almost like "Stop, Mom! I was sleeping here!!" hehe... It startled me, but of course I loved it!

One positive note about those Friday's that I love so much (The only thing that gets me through them is that the weekend is coming up - otherwise they are TOUGH!) I only have 7 more Fridays where I teach the kids because of Institute Days/Pt Conferenes/Spring Break/and a few personal days - so that's a good thing! Although I love the students, there is one class that is just REALLY difficult. Mom - it's the class that you sat in on!

Anyhow, we'll see what happens with everything - at least Spring is Friday and the weather is beautiful!

Friday the 13th :(

Well... a couple of things happening today that are just not good!

1. My OBGYN needed to go do a c-section - understandable - but no ultrasound - which was one thing I was REALLY looking forward to this week!

2. I was 'honorably dismissed' from my job today.... yuck. Basically, that's like getting pink-slipped. I might have a job next year - we'll see, I suppose.

3. Our rent house has some major problems - they have a lot of water in the basement, and Ian's talking to plumbers that say it will be $4000 to $20,000... :( :( :(

Stinky Friday!!!!!!

Ultrasound Friday!

That's right folks... at about 4:20pm this afternoon - we will get to see what's going on with our baby again :) It's actually a REALLY nice treat for a Friday - because my afternoon classes are the toughest!!!!

We're still planning on it being a surprise, but I suppose if the little guy or girl were to show his/her stuff (or lack thereof) and we saw, we wouldn't be upset :)

Anyhow, I'll post a picture on here later tonight - maybe baby will be more photogenic this time! Probably not... now that I said that :)

Have a great Friday, everyone!

It's Thursday, and we know what that means!

Another baby birthday! Happy 24 weeks to Cletus :) Only 16 more to go! I was thinking this morning that it's crazy these weeks are in the 'teens' now (those left until baby gets here) I remember telling people when I was just 8 weeks pregnant, with 32 to go!

One interesting thing I read about our little baby this week - he or she will gain 1/2 pound this week alone! (which means Mommy will too, but I"m okay with that!) It's so exciting that now we are in the 'I need my baby fat' stage -

Another neat countdown - we meet with our small group every other Monday for church - and I've figured out that we're only going to attend 6 more times before we have the baby - that's kind of exciting too :)

Anyhow, it will be here before we know it, and we are totally not ready!!! So I guess we better take care of some things :)

Have a great Thursday, everyone!

Not so easy...

Good morning everyone :) It's another cold one here! 18 degrees right now!! But at least we've had a few nice days... that's hopeful!

I'm having a problem that I'm afraid is going to stay with me through the rest of the pregnancy - my feet are starting to hurt! They even hurt now as I'm typing this... and I haven't even taught yet today :( Oh well... I suppose that's what I get for having a fairly easy pregnancy so far!

I'm excited about two little landmarks in the future : The less than 100 days landmark (as announced by the ticker) and our ultrasound on Friday :) I hope our little baby is cooperative and we can see some good pictures!

Hope everyone has a good day!

Obsess much?

Hey all :)
Well, it's officially - I'm totally obsessed with baby things. Not just the development of the baby growing, but the actually 'things' that are going to be in our home once he/she arrives! Poor Ian... He asked last night what I would fixate on once the baby was here...
Laura: You!
Ian: Noo... you did that for four years!
Laura: Then just being a mom :)
Ian: Probably trying to figure out the best way to make a child genious or something
Laura: (Laughing) You are probably right! That sounds like a great idea!

So, I suppose my life of normal thoughts is over - but that's okay :)

Have a great day everyone!

A More Rested Mommy :)

Hey all,
Last night I finally got a good night's sleep! I think it was a combination of having a busy weekend, traveling, and then Daylight Saving Time, but it was so nice to sleep through the night! (Well... I woke up a few times, but it was close!)

John's concert was AWESOME yesterday - I am amazed that he can get so many different details out of those instruments. I'm definitely looking forward to watching the video - what a talented brother!! :)

Baby is kicking a little more - which is good :) The baby 'heard' all the music from yesterday, so that's a pretty neat feeling! John's concert was baby's first cultural event! I could feel the little tyke swirling around in the end!

This Friday is our next ultrasound - so I am so looking forward to that!! I love seeing our baby in action :)

Have a great week everyone!

Yay for this weekend!! :)

Happy Friday, everyone! :) I'm SO excited to go home this weekend to visit family and see John's Degree Recital - I've been looking forward to this for a long time!! Hopefully today goes quickly, I can't wait to hit the road :)

On to baby news... I went to the Newborn Care Class last night and that had a bunch of really good information, so I'm glad that I went! I guess the baby is typically about 20 inches (avg) at birth, and this babe is already 12, so we're getting there! Most of the ladies there were about 8 months pregnant, so it was interesting to see women who were just SO pregnant like that! I suppose that's how I'll be in a few months :) I'm actually really enjoying every little part of this - so I'm almost looking forward to it!

The best part about this class was that it showed lots of slides of babies, and just gave us a lot of information - it made me realize even more that I'm just so excited to meet this little one!!

Have a great day and weekend everyone! Family - see you soon!

Happy 23 weeks!

My, my!! These weeks just seem to be flying!!! At 23 weeks, the baby is about 1.25 lbs and is a foot long - one website said it was the weight and length of a Harry Potter book :) Also, the baby can now 'taste' what I eat - so I eat something the baby doesn't like, he or she will actually scrunch the face up!! Isn't that just crazy? :) I haven't felt the big kicks like I was last week, only little flutters here and there, so I hope things are okay! I'm sure they are... I just miss those big kicks all of a sudden!

I'm going to my first 'hospital' class tonight - The Newborn Care Class - I'm taking 1 class in March (this one), 1 class in April (an Epidural/Anesthesia class) and then our Lamaze class will start May 13th - (and goes into June). So I basically have at least one class a month until the baby is born! Pretty exciting!

Now that Spring is on its way, I have a feeling that time is going to speed up a little - And, we have our next ultrasound next Friday already (the 13th) so we can all look forward to seeing Baby Bally again!

Have a great day,

5 month pictures...

Good morning all :) So here are some 5 month pictures - Once again I TOTALLY freaked out when I saw the first picture and made Ian take a 2nd one because I thought I might have been "sticking out" my belly - turns out I wasn't :) For some reason... I honestly don't look that big to myself in the mirror!! Anyhow - little baby Bally is in there! And about a foot long and 1 pound heavy - so exciting!! :)

(Sidenote: there's a little bump about halfway up my stomach - that's actually where the maternity pants END!)

Updates and goals :)

Good morning :)
So last Friday - I went to hang up some student artwork in our Admin Building, and the custodian was really worried to even give me a step stool to stand on! Now, keep in mind, I didn't really think I was at the point yet where I *looked* pregnant, but maybe I'm just in denial :)

Anyhow, at the end of hanging everything up, he asked, "So how far along are you?" and I was just so excited! This was the very first person to comment on my pregnancy that didn't know me - So I'm going to feel like one of those Bud Light commercials - but "Thank you Admin Building Custodian!!" :) It was a nice feeling!

My goal for today - (besides to teach and be a positive example for these kids) - is to have Ian take a picture of me so I can post it on the blog :) I was walking by a mirror this morning and thought - "Whew! That baby is growing!!" Not kicking as much though lately - I wish it would!

Anyhow, have a great day everyone :)

5 month mark :)

Wow! 5 months in! :) And look at that little ticker at the top - more than halfway there!! Happy 5 months Baby Bally!! 4 months to go until we meet you...

I have still been feeling the baby, but not as strong as it was Thursday and Friday - Baby must have decided to have a dance party in there or something on those days! Now, it's more like Baby Bally is just chillin' out - kicking me once in a while in the morning (Mom, time to get up and feed me!) after a meal (mmm... time to stretch out and take a nap!) or just at random times, (Hey Mom!! I said HEY!!!) hehe

Our stethoscope came in the mail over the weekend - but I think it's still a little too early to hear the little person, so hopefully soon! I can't wait!

On a non-baby note - There's a new movie theater that opened up in Peoria. It's a 'Brew and View' where you can buy beer and wine in addition to the regular movie treats, and it's an independent movie theater, so they're going to show movies that are a little more off the beaten path (Waltz with Bashir, Juno, Slumdog Millionaire, and 2nd run movies). Anyhow! Ian and I went last night and it was really neat - so if you are ever visiting in Peoria, this would be something fun to do :)

Hope everyone has a great Monday! I'm excited to head up to the suburbs this weekend to see my family!! :)
